Distribution of Qurans among Mosques Begins in Mauritania’s Gorgol

NOUAKCHOTT (IQNA) – The governor of Mauritania’s southern province of Gorgol launched the distribution of 16,000 copies of the Holy Quran among mosques in the province.

The plan was launched in a ceremony in the provincial capital earlier this week, attended by imams, prayer leaders and preachers of mosques.

The governor said it was part of a national initiative in which a total of 300,000 copies of the Holy Book will be handed out among mosques, religious centers, prayer rooms and other centers in the country.

He noted that the copies in the Warsh and Qaloun from Nafi narration.

The governor said the Holy Quran is the constitution of the Muslim Ummah and that Mauritania, which is a country with an Islamic government, should be pioneer in promoting the Holy Book.

The Quran copies have been printed at the order of Mauritania’s president after errors were found in some of the copies used in mosques across the country.

The copies containing errors have already been collected from mosques.

The Holy Quran committee of the Awqaf and Islamic affairs ministry has overseen the printing and distribution of the new copies.

The Warsh and Qaloun from Nafi narration is the common narration in the countries of North and West Africa, apart from Egypt.

The Islamic Republic of Mauritania is a country in the Maghreb region of western North Africa.

The country’s population is estimated to be about 4 million and virtually all Mauritanians are Muslims.

Quranic activities and programs are very popular in the African country.
